Patricia G. Matthews

Patricia G. VanPatton Matthews passed peacefully on Friday evening, June 17 at home.
Pat was born on March 8, 1936 in Bath, New York to the late Harmon G. and Marian Stakel VanPatton.
She attended Cohocton Central School and
Eastman School of Music.
She earned a BA in History and Education at Keuka College in 1958 and continued graduate work at SUNY Geneseo.
Pat taught at Haverling High School, and served as a substitute teacher at Avoca Central School.
Her love for learning continued throughout her life.
Many days were devoted to opening her heart and her home to family and friends.
She made a lasting impression on those she met.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard "Walt" Matthews; her daughter Gay Fairbrother (Robert Lyon); her son Richard "Matt" Matthews; her four granddaughters, Amanda Fairbrother, Allison (Michael) Gala, Alexis Fairbrother and Rachelle Matthews;
and her two great grandchildren, Reece and Isabella.
The family has honored Patricia's wishes by not holding funeral services. Her life was celebrated with a small family gathering.
