It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arthur Frederick Goossen, known to many as Fred, the Goose, or the man with the mustache. Fred departed this life suddenly August 19th, 2025 at the age of 78 at his home on Keuka Lake.
Born in Gloversville, NY on May 22, 1947 to Kathleen and Theodore Goossen, Fred enjoyed growing up with his brother Marty playing in the foothills of the Adirondacks as their backyard.
Upon graduation from Mayfield High School, Fred attained a Bachelor of Arts from Hamilton College, where he was an active alum, returning regularly for football games and alumni gatherings. He continued his education at Columbia University completing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
Upon completion of his education, Fred assumed a lobbying position with the New York State Department of Education, where his passion for legislative planning and action was fully sparked. After the pursuit of several career paths, Fred found his true calling and professional home in the Hearing Healthcare Community, as the Executive Director for the Hearing Healthcare Alliance of New York, serving countless clients throughout New York State for over 30 years. His dedication to the field did not stop at the New York State border. Fred was a nationally recognized and a devoted member of the International Hearing Aid Society, serving as a distinguished Governor for nearly a decade, receiving the Hearing Review’s Professional Leadership Award in 2021.
When not supporting the hearing healthcare needs of his colleagues and clients, Fred could be found in his Madras shorts and Polos on the deck of his Keuka lake home, enjoying time with friends and family. His unwavering kindness, quick wit, and stimulating conversation made everyone feel welcome and loved. He will be dearly missed by friends and family, remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Fred was a beloved husband to his wife Susan Tunney Murray-Goossen of Keuka Lake, dedicated father to his 4 children- Kate Goossen-Korbas of Epping, NH, Benjamin Goossen of Bridgeport, CT, Alexandra Goossen of Stratford, CT and Christine Walker of Rochester, NY, loving Papa to his 8 grandchildren Cadence, Wilder, Violet, Brodie, Oakley, Liam, Lily, Aiden, and brother to Martyn & Kathy Goossen of Houston, TX, brother-in-law to John & Michelle Tunney of Himrod, NY, and best-friend cousin to Tom Tunney of Hammondsport, NY.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on August 30th from 1-4 pm at the Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, NY- where friends and loved ones are invited to gather in celebration of Fred’s life and legacy.
If you would like to make a donation in Fred’s honor in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the International Hearing Society (https://www.ihsinfo.org/home) to honor Fred’s enduring compassion and care for others or Keuka Lake Association (keukalakeassoc.org) to support a community space that Fred cherished.
