Bernice D. Shauger

October 17, 1916 — January 15, 2015

Bernice Dickerson Shauger, age 98, of Corning, NY, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Corning Centers, Corning, NY.
She was born October 17, 1916 in a farm house in Tuscarora, NY, the daughter of Delbert and Florence (Wilson) Dickerson.
She worked at Newberry's Department Store in Corning for 25 years.
After she retired, Bernie lived at Dayspring Apartments in Corning for 29 years, and volunteered her time there assisting the staff in the office and doing whatever she could to help her neighbors.
In appreciation for her many years of service, in 2009, the library at Dayspring I Apartments was named the Bernie Shauger Library in her honor.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Eugene Shauger, Brenda Ribble, Matthew Shauger, and Edward Shauger, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and step great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Shirley Dickerson, and many caring nieces and nephews.
Bernie was predeceased by her parents, her son, Eugene Shauger; brothers, Kenneth Dickerson, Harold Dickerson and Mark Dickerson and her sisters, Beatrice Lott, Marsha Rude and Leona "Bonnie" Vosburgh.
We all loved Bernie for her kindness and that Dickerson sense of humor.
She was a role model for us all in the way she dealt with life's disappointments and gave of herself so willingly.
She will be missed.
A memorial service will be held in the spring, the date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bernie's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
