BATH - Betty Bailey Shaw, 83, of 43 Shannon Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at home surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Bath, NY on June 9, 1930, the daughter of Stephen S. Bailey and Rose Gilchrist Bailey.
Betty grew up in Hammondsport and was a 1947 graduate of Hammondsport High School.
She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband, James A. Shaw III, whom she married July 10, 1948.
Betty and Jim began married life working together at the family business, The House of Shaw, and soon after began raising a family in Hammondsport.
Betty went on to work as a hostess for The Taylor Wine Company and later worked in the Hammondsport Village Clerk's Office.
She also served many years as Secretary of the Hammondsport Beautification Committee.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jennifer S. (Richard) Honeyman of Webster, NY; three sons: James A. Shaw IV (Pamela Dalrymple) of Hammondsport, NY, Mark S. (Rosemary) Shaw of Bath, NY and David E. (Marcia) Shaw of Hammondsport, NY; eight grandchildren: Jessica Honeyman (Robert) Costanzo and Amanda Honeyman, Heather and Jamie Shaw, Danielle and Brian Shaw, Daniel and Lia Shaw; one great grandchild: Jackson Costanzo; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass is being planned for the Spring of 2014 at St. Mary's Church in Bath followed by a Christian Burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to CareFirst Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830, or St. Mary's Church, 32 E. Morris St., Bath, NY 14810.
