Betty Jean Snyder

Betty Jean Snyder, age 88, of Cameron Mills, NY, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Corning Hospital, Corning, NY.
She was born October 20, 1925 in Thurston, NY the daughter of Harrison and Gertrude Makley Warters.
She attended Campbell Central School and graduated from McAuley School of Nursing in Batavia, NY. She was a member of the Thurston Senior Citizens and was an Election Inspector for Thurston for 16 years. She worked several years as a nurse at St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia, NY and retired from Three Rivers Health Care Center in 1991.
Mrs. Snyder
had worked at M & R and Molly's Restaurants. She was a School Bus Driver in Corfu-East Pembroke and when she moved back to Thurston, drove bus for the Savona Central School.
Mrs. Snyder had worked as an Aide for Cooperative Extension and in 1981 received an award for the #1 Nutrition Aide of New York State.
She was a life member of the Thurston Christian Church and held several offices there, including Deacon and Assistant Treasurer.
She and her husband founded and operated the White Birch Mountain Campsite in the town of Thurston.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Joel) of Alexandria, MN; three sons, Joseph (Cynthia) of Laguna Nigel, CA, Robert (Esther) of Preble, NY and Linwood (Dawn) of Cameron Mills, NY, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren; nieces, Julie (Greg) Schuchardt and Robin (Ed) Tietje both of Campbell, NY and her loving companions Clyde and Tigger.
She was predeceased by her husband to whom she married on June 9, 1954, P. Charles Snyder, her sister Eva K. Risley and niece Carol Stephens.
Funeral services were held on Friday May 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath with Pastor David Peck officiating.
Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Campbell, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Thurston Christian Church, 7511 County Rte 333, Campbell, NY 14821 or the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, PO Box 9533, Wilton, NH 03086.
