Donald C. "Dutch" Hoag, 89, of Spaulding Drive, Bath, NY died Wednesday, May 11, 2016 peacefully at home after a brief illness. He was born in Naples, NY on November 2, 1926, to Carl and Olive Hoag. Dutch was a racing legend through the 1950's, 60's and 70's. He won the Langhorne National Open a record of five times. He was the only driver to win it both on dirt (1956, 1960 & 1963) and asphalt (1967 & 1968).
Although racing was a passion, he loved his family even more. Dutch was predeceased of his wife of 60 years, Doris, in February of 2007. Dutch is survived by his daughter, Donna (Lee Osborne) Johnston of Penn Yan, NY; his son, Dean (Christine) Hoag of Dundee, NY; his brother, Kenneth (Myrna) Hoag of Georgia; his sister-in-law, Rosemary (Clay) Ovenshire; Four grandchildren, Alex (Nicole) Hoag of Bath, NY; Erica (Murray) Streicher of Bath, NY; Denee (John) Stirpe of Victor, NY; and Kristie (Scott) McNally of Bath, NY; 7 great-grandchildren; Noah, Michael, Brady, Madison, Claire, Tanner, and Zachary. He was also predeceased by his three brothers, Robert, Milton, and Bill Hoag, as well as son-in-law, Michael Johnston.
Friends may call on Friday, May 13th from 5-8 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. A funeral service will be held on (Saturday, May 14th at 1:00 pm) at the Kanona United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery. The family also invites you to attend a dinner in celebration of Dutch's life and enjoy one last meal "on Dutch." (Saturday, May 14th, 2016, 3pm @ Bath VFW).
