Donna Joy Matter

Donna Joy Matter, passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 53, in Kanona, NY. Born on January 6, 1972, in Framingham, MA, the daughter of the late Arthur and Eleanor Grover. Donna's journey through life was marked by her unwavering kindness.

Donna, known affectionately by her friends and family, navigated life with a radiant smile that could light up the darkest of rooms. She formed an unbreakable bond with her husband, Michael Matter. Her sons, Eddie, Wesley, and Nash Jackson, will carry forward her legacy of joy and resilience. Donna's siblings, Arthur, Warren, and Mark Grover, alongside her twin sister Penny Ellis, shared in the adventures and countless memories that defined Donna's story. Her five grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye, will grow up hearing legendary tales of their grandmother's love and vivacity.

Professionally, Donna graced the Village Tavern in Hammondsport, as well as other local restaurants, with her service as a waitress and bartender. Her cheerful demeanor and attentive care made her a beloved figure among regulars and newcomers alike. Donna's commitment to her community extended beyond her work, as she was a member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary 1470 in Bath. Here, she channeled her spirited nature into meaningful involvement and touching lives.

Donna found solace and joy in camping and cherishing time with family and friends. Her love for the beach was unparalleled, with walking in the sand and allowing the rhythm of the waves to sync with her own heart's beat.

To describe Donna is to speak of a woman who was the epitome of friendliness, generosity, and spiritedness. She approached every person she met with an open heart and a readiness to give. Donna's presence was a gift, her laughter a melody, and her zest for life a guiding light. In her passing, we are reminded of the indelible impact one person can have on so many lives.

We celebrate Donna Joy Matter, not with a sense of loss but with a profound appreciation for the time we were privileged to share with her. Her spirit, forever etched in the hearts of those she touched, continues to inspire us to live fully, love deeply, and laugh heartily.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the Bath VFW on January 3, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 PM. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Bath American Legion or V.F.W. or a charity of one's choice.
