Dorothy F. Cooper, a beacon of faith and gentleness, passed away on February 18, 2026, at her home in Avoca, NY. She was born on August 15, 1937, in Thurston, NY, the daughter of the late Lynn Z. and Eda F. (Buck) Silsbee.
A cherished daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, Dorothy's family was her pride and joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her daughter Tammy Simons, her granddaughter Jessica Simons, her brothers Wilmot Silsbee and Richard Silsbee, and her loving sisters Elaine Benjamin, Joyce Pitts, and Betty Conrad. She was predeceased by her sisters Carolyn Trenchard and Marilyn Cooper.
Dorothy's spent many fulfilling years working at Gunlocke in Wayland, NY, where she was not only a dedicated employee but also a trusted colleague. Her career journey later took her to Philips Lighting in Bath, NY, from which she retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and commitment that inspired all who worked alongside her.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Dorothy was a steadfast member of the Wallace Wesleyan Church, where her spiritual life flourished. She found deep solace and strength in reading her Bible, which was the most cherished aspect of her daily routine. Her faith-filled life was a testament to her belief in kindness, compassion, and the power of prayer.
Dorothy's love for nature was evident in her passion for flowers and gardening. The beauty she created with her hands was a source of joy not just for her, but for all who had the pleasure of witnessing the fruits of her labor.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation at the Wallace Weslyan Church 9079 Church St., Avoca, NY 14809, on Monday, February 23rd from 3:00-5:00 pm and Tuesday from 11:00-12:00 pm with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Nondaga Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
