Dorothy Hobbs

Bath

Dorothy J. Hobbs, age 91, a lifelong resident of Bath, New York, passed away on August 2, 2025. Born on March 11, 1934, Dorothy was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and grace that will be cherished forever.

A brilliant student, Dorothy graduated as the Salutatorian of her class from Bath Central School, where she formed friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Her academic achievements were a testament to her intelligence and work ethic, qualities that she carried into her professional life. Dorothy dedicated years of service to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where her diligence and commitment to excellence were evident to all who worked alongside her. She was also passionately involved with the Save the Lyon Commission, advocating for the welfare of local environments.

Dorothy's creative spirit shone brightly through her hobbies. She found solace in the arts, whether it was crafting, painting, cake decorating or keeping her flower gardens beautiful. Her love for bowling was more than a pastime; it was an opportunity to connect with friends and engage in friendly competition. Above all, Dorothy's heart belonged to her family. She was the loving mother of Patricia Bennett, Jeannine Prunoske (Jim), and JerriLyn Baker; the cherished sister of Ferolyn Swain (Ray); and the adored grandmother and great-grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, mother-in-law to Kim Hobbs and aunt to several nieces and nephews. Her role as a matriarch was one she held with honor and joy.

Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband Gerald Hobbs, her dear son David Hobbs, and by two brothers and one sister who had shared in the tapestry of her life. She navigated these losses with strength and grace, always finding ways to cherish their memories.

Her departure is felt deeply by all, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends. Dorothy was a treasure to those who knew her, and her memory will be held in the hearts of many as a reminder of the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.

Calling hours will be held on August 22, 2025, from 10:00-12:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath, NY. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the David Hobbs scholarship fund at Bath Central School.
