Gary Phillip Vogt

August 23, 1951 — October 1, 2014

Gary Phillip Vogt, age 63, of Hammondsport, NY, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at home.
He was born August 23, 1951 in Moline, IL the son of Clifford and Virginia (Cook) Vogt.
Gary began his working career as a young boy watching and helping his grandfather, father and uncles in the Vogt Meat Market business in Rock Island, Illinois.
Gary continued using his meat cutting skills throughout his college years at Geifman Foods in the Quad Cities.
In his later years, Gary made Italian sausage in his garage and enjoyed having friends and family join in on the sausage-making fun.
If you were family or a good friend , you would be the recipient of Gary's homemade Italian sausage, which was a prized gift.
Very near the end of his life, Gary began teaching one of his grandsons this very old skill of sausage making.
Immediately after graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1973, he moved to Corning, NY where he began his 36 year career with Corning Incorporated.
His career started as a System Analyst & Programmer at the General Machine Shop.
In 1976, Gary began his long and accomplished career at the Erwin Manufacturing Complex which lasted from 1976 through 1996.
His jobs at the Erwin Manufacturing Complex included Shift Supervisor, Section Supervisor, Department Head, Manager of New Products & Process Development, Plant Manufacturing Engineer, Production Superintendent, Operations Manager and finally Plant Manager.
Gary then joined the Consumer Products Division in 1996 which eventually became World Kitchen.
All of his strengths and experiences in manufacturing ultimately led to Gary's Appointment as Division Vice President and Manufacturing Manager of Environmental Technologies in 2006.
Gary's amazing career at Corning Incorporated ended with his retirement in 2009.
Gary's strong work ethic and his genuine concern for everyone he worked with were recognized by all.
Gary was a member of the Town of Urbana Planning Board.
Throughout Gary's retirement, his time and energy were spent on being with his family.
His wife, children and grandchildren were most important to him.
He loved having the family at his home on beautiful Keuka Lake on holidays and birthdays.
But the much-awaited tradition was the annual summer camp when all of the children and grandchildren would come together for one week.
During Gary's illness the focus and attention was never on him.
He wanted to make sure that after his death, his family was well taken care of.
He is survived by his wife Maureen Bonady Vogt of Hammondsport, NY; children, Gregory (Christine) Vogt of Monroe, MI, Amy (Cecilia) Vogt of Buffalo, NY, Christopher (Shannon) Rice of Midlothian, VA and Jason (Nelly) Rice of Cardiff, CA; six grandchildren, Madison, Owen, Carter, Andrew, Livia and Charlotte; brothers and sisters, Marilyn Schumaker of Stockton, IA, Jeffrey Vogt of Bettendorf, IA and Kevin Vogt of Rock Island, IL and his father Clifford Vogt.
