Helen A. Baker

Helen A. Baker, age 88, of Watkins Glen, NY died Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Guthrie Corning Hospital surrounded by her husband, children and friends. She was born December 25, 1929 in Bradford, NY the daughter of the late Stephen and Julia (Lugoska) Smolarz. Mrs. Baker retired from the Bradford Central School after 24 years where she was a Cook and became Cafeteria Manager. She had also worked as a Bookkeeper for the Town of Orange, Election Inspector and for the Tyrone Home Bureau. She was a lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Church, Rosary Society, Parish Council and also was an Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered at the food pantry in Monterey for 24 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Keith A. Baker of Watkins Glen, NY; children, Theresa (Brion) Cherock of Liverpool, NY, Larry (Bonnie) Baker of Beaver Dams, NY, Lorraine (Steve) Szilagyi of Liverpool, NY, Joni (Brad) Keefer of Pittsburgh, PA, Bernard (Susan) Baker of Bradford, NY, Roberta (Harry) Bailey of Bradford, NY and Julie (Mark) Putnam of Beaver Dams, NY, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters and a great grandson Kristian Keefer.
Family and friends are invited to St. Stanislaus Church on Saturday September 29, 2018 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm for visitation and a Rosary Recitation followed by a Memorial Mass with Father Pat Connor as celebrant and Deacon Douglas Farwell. Burial will be in the Tyrone Cemetery immediately following. Memorial donations in her name may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, Tyrone Fire Department and the Bradford Fire Department.
