Obituary

Jacalyn Loraine Remmers (Howe) passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, after a prolonged hospitalization at Houston Methodist Hospital. She courageously battled neuromyelitis optica and its complications for 24 years. Her husband, Pat, and daughter, Crissy, were at her side.

Born in Bath, New York, on March 25, 1952, Jackie was the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Ackley) Howe. She was raised in Prattsburgh and graduated from Prattsburgh Central School. She worked in food service for much of her career, a fitting role for someone who found great joy in caring for others through hospitality and good food. After moving to Billings, Montana, she met the love of her life, Pat Remmers. The two later married in Denver, Colorado, before settling in Houston, Texas, where they built a life together and welcomed their daughter, Crissy.

Jackie was a loving and warm-hearted woman who devoted her life to her family and friends. She was known for her selflessness and generosity, always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Whether organizing school events, supporting community activities, coordinating fundraisers for neighbors and family members facing difficult times, or simply showing up for those she cared about, Jackie gave her time and energy without hesitation.

Jackie had a gift for making people feel welcome and loved, and no one ever left her home hungry. As a skilled baker and passionate cook, Jackie expressed her love through food. Family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations were made special by the meals and treats she made with care. Those fortunate enough to be close to Jackie knew that a birthday often meant receiving one of her homemade birthday cakes, thoughtfully baked and decorated just for them. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and connection. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to others will be remembered by all who knew her.

Jackie is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Pat Remmers of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Crissy Remmers of Seattle, Washington; her brothers, Rusty Howe of Prattsburgh, New York, and Rex Howe and his wife, Pat, of Joppa, Maryland; her sister-in-law, Pam Howe of Lexington, Kentucky, widow of her beloved brother, Tim Howe; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends whose lives she touched. She is also survived by the many dear friends in Houston whom she affectionately called her "urban family," whose friendship, love, and support brought her great joy throughout her life.

Jackie will be laid to rest in the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 2:00 pm..
