Jan Cornaire, a cherished soul whose warmth and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away on October 23, 2025, in Bath, NY. She was born on February 19, 1956, in Ithaca, NY, the daughter of Lee and Mary Lou Cornaire.
Jan is survived by her adoring father, Lee P. Cornaire, and her beloved children: Justin (Corey) Cornaire, Terra Cornaire (Nicholas Updike), and Elliott (Andrea) Cornaire. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Dylan, Shaylan, Kaylan, Mia, Mya, and Alex, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends also feel the absence of her kind and gentle presence. Jan was predeceased by her mother, Mary Lou Cornaire, and her brothers, Alex and Kelly Cornaire, with whom she now rests in peace.
Jan was a proud graduate with an associate's degree and spent her career providing care and compassion at the Elmira Psychiatric Center before her well-deserved retirement. Her work ethic and dedication to helping others were evident in the lives she touched both professionally and personally.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jan's interests painted the picture of a woman deeply connected to the simple pleasures of life. An avid reader, she found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books. She found joy in gardening, crafting beautiful creations, and engaging in the camaraderie of softball and pool leagues. Euchre nights were a testament to her competitive spirit and love for games.
Most importantly, Jan's heart belonged to her family. The sleepovers with her grandchildren were occasions of pure happiness and cherished memories. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her life, and it is this love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
As we remember Jan, we are reminded of the words of Leo Buscaglia, "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." Jan embodied this sentiment, transforming lives with her unwavering kindness and affection.
