John Gerard LaFortune died on Monday, February 22, 2016 while on vacation in Florida.

John was born on September 24, 1952 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Patrick and Helen Howard LaFortune, who preceded him in death.
John moved with his family to the U.S. as a child. He resided in Seattle, WA, Los Angeles, CA, and New Orleans, LA. John enlisted in the U.S Navy during the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged in 1973. Shortly after his discharge he was admitted as an in-patient resident at the VA Hospitals in Gulfport, Mississippi and later in Canandaigua, NY. In 1995 John was moved to a residential group home, operated by Cindy Brown, first in Willard, NY and later, Interlaken, NY.
John is survived by his sister Marie (Fred) Houston of San Clemente, CA and brothers Pat (Noel) LaFortune of Sebastapol, CA, Deacon David (Trish) LaFortune of Hammondsport, NY and Mike (Liz) LaFortune of Annapolis, MD. Additionally John is survived by nephews Tim Houston, Laguna Hills, CA, Michael (Michelle) LaFortune, Folsom, CA, Jonathon (Adrian) LaFortune, Ukiah, CA, Matthew (Erin Graham) LaFortune, Washington, D.C.; nieces Michele (Ron) Yockey, Pine MT. Club, CA, Meghann LaFortune Reed, Caton, NY, Ellen (Joe) Blide, Horseheads, NY; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Cindy Brown for her care of John. The last 20 years of his life were enriched by her care, and for that the LaFortune family is most thankful.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 4, 2016 at 12:00 o'clock p.m., at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Bath, NY. Burial will be in the Veterans National Cemetery in Bath.
In lieu of flowers donations should be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
