Joseph George Cheplick

Joseph George Cheplick, Jr., age 90 died on March 8, 2017 in Elmira. He was born on December 23, 1926 to Joseph and Helen Cheplick of Olyphant, PA. He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Dorsey Schmellze and three brothers: Russell, John and Eugene, as well as two half-sisters.
He is survived by two brothers: Tom (Millie) Cheplick and David Cheplick, both of Elmira NY, his wife June (Fox) Cheplick (since 1970) of Bath NY, his son Craig (Wendy) Cheplick of Montour Falls, NY, daughter Robyn Cheplick of Elmira, NY; granddaughters Katelyn Cheplick and Christina (Matthew) Notarfonzo, step children, Cindy (Danny) Kuhn of Bettendorf, Iowa and Frank (Geri) Fox of Keyser, WV; step grandchildren, Kelly, Casey, Molly and Nathan Kuhn and Sara and Mark Tobias as well as many nephews and nieces.
Joe was a graduate of Mansfield University where he was also on the football team. He did further studies at Alfred University in education. He served in the Army and played on their baseball team. After his college studies, he taught for two years before becoming the Principal of the Middle School in Bath NY.
He served in that position for 30 years and many people will remember him as their principal and/or a coach of the football team.
Joe retired in 1982 and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a former member of Kiwanis and the Bath Country Club as well as a current member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church.
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 11, 9:30am-10:45am at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 122 Liberty St. Bath NY 14810, followed by a funeral there at 11:00am, Father Brad Benson officiating.
Burial will be at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Joe's name.
