Joseph Vrooman Smalt Jr., known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away on March 13, 2024, at the age of 60 in Bath, New York, After a brief illness Surrounded by his children . Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on May 3, 1963, to the late Barbra Clark and Joseph Smalt Sr., Joe grew up with a love for the simple pleasures in life, surrounded by a family that would shape his generous and joyful spirit. Joe attended Horseheads High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and established a foundation for his future. After graduation, he honed his skills and became a respected mason for Bill Heaster Construction. His work not only showcased his creative touch but also allowed him to contribute tangibly to his community, something he took great pride in. Beyond his professional life, Joe was a man of many passions. A true New England Patriots fan, he never missed a game and could often be found cheering on his team surrounded by friends and family. His love for football was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. Joe was happiest when he was fishing, camping, or simply enjoying nature's beauty. These activities provided him with a sense of peace and a space to create cherished memories with those he held dear. Joe's sense of humor was as infectious as it was endearing. He had a knack for making people laugh and could lighten any room with his quick wit and clever jokes. Above all, Joe was loving; his warmth and affection for his family and friends knew no bounds. He is predeceased by his parents, Barbra and Joseph Smalt Sr., and his brother Ronald Smalt. Joe's legacy lives on through his beloved family. He is survived by his brother Daniel Smalt his best friend and his wife Cheryl Gilbert-Smalt, and his brother Gary Smalt. He was a devoted father to his children, Tiffany Smalt (Warren Greenough ) , Carrie Smalt, Joseph Smalt and (Kiley Kimball), and Rowlanda Smalt and (Mathew Cripps) . Joe's joy was multiplied by his many grandchildren: Nevaeh Oyler, Adriana Smalt, Maria Smalt, Greyson Oyler, Everleigh Kimball-Smalt, Willow Oyler, Julianna Greenough, Atticus Cripps, and Violet Kimball-Smalt. The memories and love that Joe shared with his family and friends will continue to resonate and comfort them. His laughter, creativity, and loving nature will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Joe's life was a testament to the power of joy, the strength of family bonds, and the beauty of nature. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
