Former Bath resident E. June Joyce passed peacefully on Monday, November 7 in Corning, NY. She was 89 years old.
The daughter of John Wesley Odell and Edith Lindquist, June was born in Tonawanda, NY on February 3, 1927. She graduated from Kenmore High School and went on to study art and design at the Phoenix School of Design (Pratt University) in New York, NY and Syracuse University.
June met and married Francis M. Joyce in Syracuse, where she was employed as an illustrator by the Iroquois Publishing Co. The newlyweds moved to Corning in 1954, where Francis worked as an advertising executive for Corning Incorporated until his death in 1967.
An accomplished artist, June had an active interest in art all of her life. She also enjoyed music, photography, and needlecraft. She worked as a freelance designer creating greeting cards and needlecraft kit designs. In later years, she volunteered at the American Red Cross in Bath, creating birthday and holiday cards for distribution to patients at the Bath VA Medical Center.
June was always a devoted mother. She showed great strength, determination, and ingenuity as she raised five children entirely on her own. She was never happier than when surrounded by her loved ones.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Michael and Kathy Joyce, Patricia Joyce and John Igoe, Mary (Joyce) Bennett and Peter Harrington, Peter Joyce, and Carolyn Joyce. She is also survived by: brother and sister-in-law Charles and Carol Odell; brother-in-law Martin Joyce; grandchildren Megan, Erin and Molly Joyce, Chelsea, Matthew and Caitlin Bennett, and Melissa Gavitt; and great-granddaughters Bella June Gavitt and Violet Olivia Tuttle.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 10th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Father Pat Connor officiating.
A graveside service will follow in Holy Sepulchre Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bath.
Donations may be made in her memory be made to one of her favorite charities: The Salesian Mission , the American Red Cross , or the charity of one's own choice.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Guthrie Corning Hospital, CareFirst Hospice, and Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
