Lee Phillip Cornaire, passed away on June 9, 2026, in Elmira, New York, at the age of 90.
He was born on May 23, 1936, in Cape Vincent, New York, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Aubertine) Cornaire.
Lee graduated as Salutatorian from Cape Vincent Central School in 1954, an early reflection of his discipline and dedication. He went on to attend Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. He also graduated from the Army War College and the Army Command and Staff School. His education laid a strong foundation for a life marked by service, responsibility, and achievement.
Following his graduation from Cornell, Lee received an ROTC commission in the United States Army. He went on to serve for 38 years as a Reserve Officer, ultimately achieving the rank of Colonel. His military career was distinguished by faithful service, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to duty. Lee carried himself with the calm confidence of someone who understood the importance of service to country and the value of leading by example.
Lee's life was also defined by the love he had for his family. He is survived by his children, Gregory Cornaire, Patrick Cornaire, Jay Cornaire, and Casey Cornaire. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Branche Cornaire in 2007 and his children Jan Cornaire, Alex Cornaire, and Kelly Cornaire. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Justin Cornaire, Elliott Cornaire, Terra Cornaire, Colin Cornaire, Jordan Cornaire, Jill Cornaire, Caitlin Cornaire, Kailey Cornaire, Kristen Oliver, Ryan Cornaire, and Casey Cornaire, as well as several great-grandchildren. His family was a source of great pride and joy to him, and his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the generations that follow.
Lee Phillip Cornaire's life was one of service, devotion, and accomplishment. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of wisdom, leadership, and family devotion will remain a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
Family and friends are invited to Fagan's Funeral Home on Monday, June 15, 2026 from 11:00am-1:00pm for the visitation. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 pm at St. Mary's Church in Bath, celebrated by Reverend Hoan Dinh. Burial with military honors will be in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath, immediately following Mass.
