Melvin L. Hann (94) of Bath passed away at home where he resided for the last 94 years on April 4th, 2026- surrounded by family and his beloved caregivers.
Born November 25, 1931- to Alfred and Lela Hann.
He was a dairy farmer for many years, Bath Town Supervisor, Town Councilman and worked for All Season Tire.
He was a member of the Agricultural Society and the Soil and Water Board. He was a lifetime member of the Towlesville Grange, the Masons and a former member of the Howard Eastern Star and the Champaign Whirl-A-Ways. He played in a country western band and was a well-known caller for square dances.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Virginia, daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Thomas Thorpe II, grandson, Zachary Hann, brother Alonzo Hann and sisters, Margriet Jessup, Leora Parulski and Esther Miller.
Surviving are his daughter, Nancy (Dan) Scott of Campbell; son, D. Michael (Carrie) Hann of Bath; Grandchildren; Peggy (Darrick) English of Bradford; Robert Knowles of Bath; Amanda (Joshua) Wakeman of Savona; Thomas (Terra) Thorpe III of Bath; Michael (Eve Freeborn) Hann of Bath; Megan (Joshua) O’Neal of NC; Gunnery Sergeant Marine Jacob (Jackie) Hann of NC; Caleb Hann of Bath; Joshua Poplaski of Campbell; and Shirlyn (Owen) Cervoni of Horseheads. He also had 29 great-grandchildren (w/one on the way) and 7 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Addie Lou Racalto and many nieces and nephews. His cats Summer and Mike.
Over the past two years he has had the best in home care we could have asked for. The people that made sure he had what he needed and made him comfortable so he could remain in his own home- we will forever be thankful for them: Michelle and Michael Wood, Maddison Ellis, Amber Willis, BFF Sophia Hagadone and Dena Nichols. You are amazing individuals and we will never be able to repay you for everything you have done! Thank you again for bringing purpose back to his life for the last couple years.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his name to the Zachary Hann Scholarship Fund c/o Haverling Central School.
