Patrick James Galvin, 65, of Bath, passed away on Friday, October 2nd, 2026, in Bath, New York. Patrick was born in Urbana, NY on August 12th, 1961 to James and Geraldine Galvin. Patrick lived a life guided by unwavering faith in a profound love for God.
Patrick graduated from Haverling Central School in 1979. During his high school years, Patrick was an active and involved member of his school community. He participated in Student Council, proudly marched with the marching band, and enjoyed being part of both the football and basketball programs. His involvement reflected his enthusiasm for his school, his love of being part of a team, and the many lifelong friendships he made along the way. After high school, Patrick graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1983. Patrick served on the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast, he was a “Deck Watch Officer,” performing law enforcement duties, primarily in the Caribbean. Patrick then married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Makitra Galvin on May 14th, 1985 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
After that, he transitioned to the Marine Safety field in New Orleans, Louisiana and then in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where he performed various marine safety and environmental protection duties, enforcing US laws and regulations, protecting US waters and ports
Patrick proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Lieutenant. In 1992, he received the gift of a kidney transplant, an experience that marked an important chapter in his life and gave him many more years to share with those he loved.
Following his medical retirement, Patrick and his wife, Marianne, moved their family to Penn Yan, New York, where they made their home and raised their two children, Gretchen and Peter. Their years in Penn Yan were filled with family, community, and countless cherished memories. Patrick found great joy in being a husband and father, and his love and devotion to his family remained at the heart of his life.
Patrick was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved fishing for salmon, steelhead and trout along the Salmon River in Pulaski, New York with his son, Peter, and his dearest friend, Tony Sinchak.
Patrick lived his life with a generous heart and a deep commitment to serving God and others. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and found great meaning in giving back to his community. Patrick generously volunteered his time and talents in many capacities, including supporting Foodlink and the Steuben Center. Through his service, kindness, and willingness to help others, he made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him. His compassion and spirit of giving will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As his Alpha Company from the Academy states, “Patrick was the kindest, most accepting person that we knew. He was an example and role model for the rest of us. We will forever love him and miss him, and we’ll all see him again.”
Patrick will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Marianne (Makitra) Galvin; his children, Gretchen Maass (Evan Maass) and Peter Galvin (Natalie Boutros); and his grandchildren, Silas Patrick Maass and Evangeline Freya Maass.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Colleen Gyr (Chris Gyr), Karen Groot (Randy Groot), Dean Galvin, and Diane Weber, as well as his in-laws, Katie Makitra-Ortiz, Robert Makitra, Michael Makitra, Jeanne Glass (Mike Glass), Sam Makitra (Melanie Makitra) and Francine Sinchak (Tony Sinchak).
Patrick was deeply loved by his many nieces and nephews, including Gigi, Oliver, Hannah, Sarah, Lexie, Danny, A.J., Heather, Audrey, Griffin, Jessie, Nick W., Aly, Tony, Jenni, Ryan, Jeana, Heather, Jennifer, Tony, Adam, Aaron, Megen, Shane, Noah, Nick S. and Paul. He is also survived by his beloved Aunt, Sister Ellen and many cousins. Patrick was predeceased by his parents.
