Robert Walter Abbey, Senior, August 19, 1936-August 8, 2026 of Bath, NY. Son of Warren R. Abbey and Catharine Ward Abbey. Bob graduated from Haverling High School of Bath in 1954 and entered the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. Serving aboard the U.S. Missouri and the U.S. Iowa, Naval Admiral Fleet Ships during the Suez Canal and Korean Conflicts playing Trombone in the Admiral's Fleet Band on both ships, as well as on shore duty in Corpus Christi, Texas, Naval Base.

During leave in 1956, Bob married Frances Porreca of Fairport, NY to whom he was engaged. After receiving an honorary fulfillment of his 4 year enlistment he returned to Steuben County and settled in Hammondsport in 1959 working for the Taylor Wine Company until 1964 when he returned to Bath and went to Insurance School in Rochester, and was then employed by the Bath Fire Corp. until its sale. During which time he along with Frank Minichello, Gerald Staple and several others helped found the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corp.

For a number of years Bob enjoyed driving school bus for Haverling School District until he entered the State's Dept. of Corrections as a Correction Officer until he retired.

Robert Walter Abbey Senior was the beloved husband of Frances Porreca Abbey for 70 years. Beloved father to Warren R. Abbey II deceased (Anne Smith), Julian A. Abbey Cornell (Tina), Robert W. Abbey Jr. (Tina Duncan), John C. Abbey (Rose) and Catharine R. Abbey; beloved grandfather to Carmen, Hannah, Benjamin IV, Samuel, Christopher, Cyle, Brandon, Meghan and Shannon plus 12 great grandchildren with whom he served with love and enjoyed.

During his life, Bob and his wife Frances, intermittently played their trombones. One season with the Corning Philharmonic, four with the Hornell Area Wind Ensemble and four with Trombone Associates. Bob also performed "TAPS Across the Nation" that hit the Guinness Book of World Records.

Besides loving and serving his family, Bob's greatest buddy was his dog "Mac" who was his constant companion for 17 years, and Saint Anthony of Padua even more.
