IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert M.
Roote
November 25, 1939 – February 25, 2026
Robert M Roote
Bob, age 86, passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2026, at the Steuben Center in Bath, N.Y.
He was born in Bath to Robert S. and Beulah G. (m Leach) Roote.
Bob graduated from Haverling High School in 1957 where he excelled at football, wrestling, and especially baseball. He continued his education, earning an associate's degree from SUNY Alfred in 1960, and a bachelor's degree from Northeastern University in 1969.
After his honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1967, Bob and wife Carol (m Fiorillo) settled in Hudson Massachusetts where their family expanded to include son Robb, daughter Katie, son Tom, and son Jeff.
Given an opportunity to move back to Bath, in 1977 the family returned to what would be his final resting place.
Living "up on the hill" would be both challenging as well as rewarding, the quiet secluded country lifestyle suited Bob; whether making maple syrup in the spring, trout fishing the local streams and rivers throughout the summer, chasing a trophy buck in the fall, or tending the woodburning stove and snowed in driveway in the winter, Bob wouldn't have traded it for anything.
Back in Bath, the first entry on his resume would be business manager of the Haverling school system, an identical position to what he left behind in Hudson. The last entry would simply be "head lawnmower guy" at Hickory Hill Campground, a job he loved as it kept him outside, provided good company, and was close to home.
As much as he loved his family, he also loved his dogs, over time too many to list, but Butch and Sundance (Sunny) were his two most recent companions.
Predeceased by his parents, wife Carol, sisters Betty and Virginia, Bob is survived by his children: Robb, Katie, Tom, and Jeff; grandchildren: Danica, Will, Cameron, Jack, Ava, Fiorella, Rocco, Gianni, and Francesca.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Bath, N.Y.
