Robert Lyle Simons, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024, in Elmira, NY. Born on June 7, 1946, in Buffalo, NY, Bob lived a full life characterized by service, laughter, and an immense capacity for kindness.
Bob's early years in Bath were filled with the joys of childhood and the strong bonds of family. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, his sister Kathy Hashinburger, and his brother Earl "Dave" Molyno. These relationships shaped the man he would become, instilling in him the values of loyalty and compassion that he carried throughout his life.
A patriot at heart, Bob dedicated 22 years of his life to the military, first joining the Army in August 1964, then transitioning to the Air Force in May 1966. He retired in May 1986 as a Tech Sergeant, having served our country with honor and distinction. His commitment to his fellow servicemen and women was unwavering, and he left a legacy of courage and dedication that will not be forgotten.
Bob's life was also marked by a deep sense of selflessness and a humorous spirit that could light up any room. He had a unique ability to find joy in the simplest moments and to share that joy with everyone around him. His laughter was infectious, and his kindness knew no bounds. Bob had an innate talent for making people feel valued and loved, a trait that endeared him to many.
He leaves behind a family that adored him, including his sister Carol Furman, sister Sandra Casterline, and sister-in-law Gayle Molyno. Bob was a cherished father to his children, Alicia (Boss) Brackins, Danielle Clegg, Brigette Simons, and Robert Lyle Simons, II. Each of them will carry forward the lessons of love and strength that he instilled in them.
Bob's legacy will also live on through his treasured grandchildren, Lee, Emilee, Mya, Erin, Logan, Isaac, and Hayden, and his great-grandchildren, Addison, Donnie, and Eli. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, and he took immense pride in their achievements and adventures. His stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his embrace will be deeply missed by them all.
Throughout his life, Bob formed countless friendships and connections. His sense of community and his willingness to lend a helping hand made him a beloved figure in both his professional life and his personal endeavors. Bob's absence will be felt by many, but the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Military Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Bath National Cemetery.
