Rocco Augustus Angus, born on August 2, 1945, in Wayland, N.Y., passed away on November 27, 2023. He was the son of the late Augustus and Mary (Bottoni) Angus. Rocco graduated from Franklin Academy/Prattsburgh Central in 1963 and later pursued a career in mortuary science, graduating from the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in 1965.
A proud veteran, Rocco served in the Army during Vietnam. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he became a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus in 1965. Rocco was also actively involved in sports officiating, serving as a Section V basketball referee and umpiring for Little League and Babe Ruth baseball.
Rocco spent a significant portion of his professional life at Mercury Aircraft of Hammondsport, N.Y., where he contributed to the aviation industry. Upon retirement, he continued to cherish the camaraderie and memories built over the years.
He is preceded in death by his brother James Angus, and is survived by his siblings Mary Louise (Angus) Hoose and Patrick Angus, both of Prattsburgh, N.Y. Rocco leaves behind a lasting legacy through his three children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
His daughter, Gabrielle (Angus) Lent of Syracuse, N.Y., has two children, Kathryn Angus (Potsdam, N.Y.) and Holly Patterson (Syracuse, N.Y.), and Holly's daughter, Violet Beaudoin (Syracuse, N.Y.). His son Douglas and daughter-in-law Dawn (Bridwell) Angus of Indian Trail, N.C., have two children, Stanley Angus (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Michael Angus (Indian Trail, N.C.). Another son, Christopher and daughter-in-law Jamie (Bishop) Angus of Owings, MD, have a son named Devin Angus (Owings, MD).
Calling hours to celebrate the life of Rocco Augustus Angus will be held at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath, N.Y. (31 W. Morris Street) on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The funeral will be on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10 a.m., also at Fagans Funeral Home.
The final resting place for Rocco will be St. Patrick's Cemetery in Prattsburgh, N.Y., where he will be laid to rest with his family, immediately following the funeral on Monday. The burial ceremony will be a time for reflection, remembrance, and the sharing of memories.
Family and friends are invited to join together during the calling hours, funeral, and the burial ceremony to pay their respects, offer condolences, and celebrate the life of a man who touched the lives of many. Rocco will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his contributions to the community. May he rest in peace.
