Rose Josephine Smolos, age 95, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath, NY. Born in La Salle, IL, she was the daughter of the late John and Francis (Domagalski) Niziolek. After a few years in Denora, PA, she grew up on a farm near Savona, NY. She attended Savona HS and worked in NY City for a few years. Rose was married to John Smolos for 46 years when John passed away in 1985. She worked for Westinghouse in Bath, NY for many years.
Rose hosted many family events and baby-sat for her grandchildren often. She liked cross word, puzzle solving and quilting.
Rose's quilts are her children's and grandchildren's prized possessions. She will always be loved and missed by all of her family.
Rose is survived by her children; Constance J. (Peter) Knapp of Leola, PA, Arlene R. (Richard) Seybolt of Monkey Island, OK, Louise 'Dolly' E. (Ernie) Pipe of Hammondsport, NY and Beverly J. (Larry) Andrus of Bath, NY, her sister, Mary Pollack of Chicago, IL, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband John, brothers Michael and John, and sisters, Louise Jochmann, Theresa Killian, Genevieve Costello, Jane Wheat and Virginia Jacobus, and one granddaughter, Suzanne Rose Knapp (died at birth).
Friends may call on Monday September 10th from 12:00-2:00 pm at Fagan's Funeral Home, 31 W. Morris Street, Bath, NY.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Father Pat Connor officiating.
Interment will be private in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Bath.
