Sharon Elaine (Towner) Hellem, 82, of Bath, New York, passed away on June 28, 2026, in Bath, New York.
Sharon was born on June 23, 1944, in Bath, New York, the daughter of Richard Frank Towner and Eleanor Ida (Field) Towner. She lived her life with a gentle spirit, a caring heart, and a deep devotion to the people she loved. Those who knew Sharon will remember her as loving, kind, and creative, qualities that were reflected in the way she treated her family, her friends, and her community.
Sharon was a lifelong area resident and a proud graduate of Haverling High School. She continued her education at Elmira Business Institute and also attended Corning Community College. Her education helped shape the practical, thoughtful, and capable woman she became, and she carried herself with quiet strength and dignity throughout her life.
Sharon was involved with the Near Westside Neighborhood Association in Elmira, New York, where she gave of her time and support to others. Her involvement in the community reflected her desire to make a difference and to be of help wherever she could. She believed in the value of connection, kindness, and service, and she touched many lives through her steady presence and sincere concern for others.
Family was at the center of Sharon's life. She is survived by her daughters, Christina Lynn (Hellem) Allan and her husband Roger, and Darlene Marie (Hellem) Langeland and her husband Robert. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Desheray Marie (Langeland) Jansen and her husband Christopher, Danielle Elizabeth Langeland, Alexander Robert Raymond Langeland IV and his wife Harley, Heidi Rebecka Langeland, and Andrew Robert Richard Langeland. Sharon was a proud great-grandmother to Lillian and Thomas. She is also survived by nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Richard Frank Towner and Eleanor Ida (Field) Towner, her son Jeffrey Richard Hellem in 2015, and her sisters Margaret Towner Ellis and Patricia and Stanley Lowell. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with those who went before her.
Sharon's life was marked by love, creativity, and devotion. She found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of everyday life, and she had a special way of making others feel welcome and cared for. Her kindness left a lasting impression, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday July 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Grace Episcopal Church, 375 West Church St., Elmira, NY 14901
