Sherman H. Wheeler, 74, passed away on August 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 4, 1951, to Ivan Emerson Wheeler and Christine Rachel Hamm Wheeler.

Sherman was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished brother, and dear friend to many. Above all else, Sherman was a faithful servant of God. He loved the Lord deeply, and his faith was an important part of his life. His love for his family was unwavering, and he took great pride and joy in the time he spent with them.

One of his family's cherished Thanksgiving traditions was going around the table and sharing what each person was thankful for. Sherman's answer was, without fail, "the Lord, my wife, and my family." Those words reflected the priorities that guided his life and the love he carried in his heart.

Sherman worked as a machinist for Dresser-Rand for more than 30 years. He was a hardworking man who took pride in what he did and in providing for those he loved.

Those who knew Sherman will remember him for his wonderful sense of humor. He was, without a doubt, an ever-present jokester who loved to make people laugh. His quick wit, playful spirit, and ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him will be deeply missed.

Sherman found solace and contentment in woodworking, where he could create with his hands and enjoy the peace of the craft. He also found great joy and peace while fishing with family and friends. An avid hunter, Sherman took particular pride in sharing his love of hunting with his children and grandchildren.Passing down those traditions and spending time together outdoors created memories that his family will treasure for generations to come.

Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan E. Wheeler and Christine Wheeler, and his brothers-in-law, Duane Bakeman and Eugene Buman.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna J. Wheeler; his children, Stephanie Vinzant (Rudy), Sherman Alan Wheeler (Ann White), Amanda Lozier, Joy Buckley (Norman), John Wheeler (Denae), Joanna Ferguson (Caleb), and Joshua Wheeler (Kaitlyn Tumia); 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren,who brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

He is also survived by his siblings, Ivan E. Wheeler, Jr. (Lorraine), Christina R. Weaver (Terry), Patricia Buman, Norma Whitmore (Ron), Cecelia Chant (George), Wayne Wheeler (Penny), Thomas Wheeler (Eileen), Melissa Snyder (Steve), and Angela Robbins (Truman), along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Sherman leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, hard work, and cherished family traditions. His greatest accomplishments were not found in his career or the things he built with his hands, but in the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the family he loved so dearly.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that Sherman is now at peace with the Lord he faithfully served. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

His was a life well lived, a love well given, and a legacy that will live on.
