Shirley B. Sheils

Bath – Shirley Bedner Sheils, 77, passed away on October 28, 2025. Shirley was born on November 30, 1947, in the most memorable of ways, in her late parents, Edward and Lillian (Trusievitz) Bedner’s car, at the four corners in Savona, NY. Shirley was married to the love of her life and best friend, Lyman Sheils, Jr., for 58 beautiful years. Together, they built a life filled with love that only deepened with time.

Shirley is survived by her devoted daughters, Kelly (Steve) Dunwoody of Castle Hayne, NC, and Katherine (Michael) Wonderly of Canandaigua, NY; her beloved sister, Susan Hopkins of Bath, NY; her four extraordinary grandchildren, Ryan (Spencer Elise) Dunwoody, Riley Dunwoody, Lillian Wonderly, and Landon Wonderly; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who adored her. Shirley was predeceased by her beloved sister, Sandra Love.

Shirley was the heart of her family, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose grace, grit, and generosity touched all. To know Shirley was to be deeply loved and fed! Her meals were celebrations of family, togetherness, and some competitive card games. Shirley found great joy wintering at Sunset Beach, NC, friendship boating, cheering for her grandchildren in all their activities and milestones. Her love for her grandchildren was unconditional and each was her absolute favorite! Shirley is leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 2:00–3:00 PM at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath, where a service celebrating Shirley’s life will follow, led by Father Jim.
